I know personally, that my brain works its best creative magic later in the day - just before midnight. I've always known this as sometimes I find it hard to fall asleep because my mind is scheming and planning away. Since going back to work means getting up early, I've found myself tired and in need of going to bed much earlier. Around 10 or 11 at the latest. My creative mind hasn't adjusted so well to this time switch.I'm going to seriously think about this predicament and see what I can do about it. I might have to try writing on my lunch break and see how that goes...I feel the problem is, I don't take a regular lunch break and I often eat at my desk while working. This might need to change. Maybe my brain will work just fine creatively over lunch. I need to find out.
How about you? What time of day do you find it convienient to get creative? And is this your optimal productive time? Maybe you're a

Unfortunately my brain kicks into overdrive when I should be doing my money making job. It's really hard to fit in creative time when at 10am you should be balancing books instead of redesigning a blog.
Hope you find something that works for you.
I am SOOOO not a morning person. I love th quiet of the late night, when i should be sleeping.
For me, totally at night, when the house is QUIET but also when I need to be sleeping so I have the energy to get through the next day ;)
Hm, I'm actually a later-afternoon person...I've had my six hours to wake up, I've had several cups of coffee, I've had a little time to flog the gerbils into shape. Sadly it rarely works out that I get that time to work on anything - it's always late at night, when I'm too bagged to make an effort (I *used* to be a late night person, but I *used* to get to sleep in until 10). At least with writing, having a kidlet this small means I can stuff him in a stroller and go for a walk, so all I have to do is think, and possibly stop to take the occasional note.
No real advice, sorry, just commiseration...
Funny I used to be a night owl but since my daughter was born I've definately become a morning person.
I get up at 6 AM with the kids, and I can manage visiting blogs and reading email. That's about it. I'm creative more during the day.
HMMM I a freak, I mean a morning person I think. However, I just can't seem to find the time in the morning to get creative. Eliza is just awake and ready to start her day.
I used to be a creative genius late at night until I started getting so exhausted by the time the day was over. Now, my juices kick in whenever it's quiet. If I can just focus for a minute it works good. Sometimes it kicks in when I'm in the middle of driving or doing something for the kids... then I tried to repeat it over and over in my head so I don't forget.
That probably didn't help you any, huh? Well, I hope you figure out your new creative time. It will probably take a little while for it to kick in.
my brain kicks in when I should be sleeping, so the middle of the night... ack!!! Of course I won't be able to stop thinking about it until I get up and write it on a piece of paper.
Merissa - I can see how that would be frustrating!
Meno - you and me both
Journey - it's a tough toss up isn't it?
Kelly - I remember those sleep until 10 days very, very fondly!
debateur - that is interesting and something that hasn't happened to me!
Brenda - you manage more than I at 6am :)
Danielle - somehow I knew you were a freak ;) haha
Petula - it's good to know your muse has adjusted. I hope mine does too.
Tena - that happens to me too. I keep a pen and paper in my beside drawer :)
Funny..I am trying to narrow down a time..and I absolutely can not. I am all over the place...some times I wake up ready to pounce all over an idea that came to me in my sleep...other times, I find myself a creative fool in mid day...and still other times, I am still working like mad at a project when I should be fast asleep...huh. Just depends on the day, I guess. (today it was all day...hee hee)
I tend to get it at two inopportune times. One is late morning which is bad because a) it's right when I need to get my little one to bed for a nap and b) I should be working.
The other is later at night, around 9 or 10 pm but lately I'm so tired that although I know it's in my head, it's hard to get it out anywhere.
I am a late night girl! My family is sleeping and it is finally my time by myself to write and relax.
I just don't like to wake up early!
I work on my bags all day long, but find I am most productive between 5pm and 8pm.
P.S. I am having a contest on my blog! I hope you come over to enter!

I have a hard time falling asleep also. I keep a note pad on my night stand to jot down ideas and then I tell myself to tackle them the next day. My inspiration comes throughout the day also.
